Note: there is a brightness trim wheel behing the handle on the left side. Sometimes the screen looks like it has failed, but all you have to do is increase the brightness!
The Baxter volumetric pump is used for iv fluid infusions. They are available in labour ward theatres. If you want one for a patient in general theatres, HDU are happy to give them to you if a patient is returning there postop. Remember to get a giving set from HDU, as theatres don't stock them.
Setup
1. Prime a giving set, making sure there is no air in the line. The pumps are very sensitive to air and occlusion.
2. Plug in to the mains. Press and hold 'On/off' to start.
3. Once it boots up, press and hold the arrow below 'Speaker Test' on the screen, then confirm you can hear the alert.

4. Press 'Open', then insert the giving set into the pump. Make sure the blue clamp is closed, keep a stretch on the tubing and push it firmly into the slot. There is a whirring sound as it engages the giving set.
5. Press 'Primary' to programme the rate and infusion. Enter infusion rate, then press the down arrow beside the screen and enter 'Volume to be infused'. Confirm primary and then press start to run the pump.
6.To change the programme, press 'STOP', then 'Primary', change the rate and volume, press 'Confirm primary' and then 'START'.
